Rev. Michael G. Hambleton was a former minister and later member of this church. He obtained degrees in Theology from both Bristol and Oxford Universities and since his ordination in 1962 he worked as a Baptist minister in Thrapston, Kings Langley, Sri Lanka and, of course, Abingdon. He retired from the ministry in April 2000 following a nine year ministry at Abingdon Baptist. He enjoyed a life long interest in local history, and with his wife, Stella, was a founding member of the Thrapston Historical Society.

His book, “A Sweet and Hopeful People – A story of Abingdon Baptist Church” was first published in 2000 and was revised in 2011. It covers the period 1649-2011 (in the Revised Edition) and is a useful starting point for anyone interested in the history of Abingdon Baptist Church. It can be obtained from Abingdon Baptist Church for a £10 donation to the Abingdon Baptist Church Development Project.
