Goodbye to Summertime

By the time you read this article the summer holidays will be drawing to a close. For many of our church congregation this time has meant a bit of  break from the norm. No school for the younger ones amongst us and those who are involved in school life. The stopping of many of the groups that meet regularly for August, Time for things to happen that can’t go on while the usual schedule is happening like the painting of 35 Ock Street.

We’ve seen Euro 2016, Wimbledon, Cricket, the Rio Olympics, changes in Government and Opposition; quite a busy summer for many involved in any of the above. They may not get their break until later in the year; but they will need to stop and have a break at some point.

A break can give us time to take stock and think about the future. In July we held our ‘Renewing our Resources weekend’, where we looked at the areas of church life that need help. Those of us there prayed that God would show us where he wants us to serve Him. don’t worry if you weren’t there, there is still time to join in and pray and see where God might call you to serve Him as part of ABC! If you want to know more about some of the vacancies that there are then please talk to Paul or myself.

We are working towards the re development of the Church interior, as Iain showed us there is still a bit of a way to go with the fundraising, so please let the fundraising team know if you have any bright ideas. Please also pray for the grant applications that have gone in and others that are going to be started soon. We want to get things started in 2017 and hopefully move out of the church for some of the year so that it can be re developed, giving us a great, useable space for all the groups that meet in the church hall at present.

A date for your diary this month is the 17th and 18th September which is the 20th anniversary of the opening of 35 Ock Street. It will be a great time to meet friends old and new and to celebrate the Lord’s provision for Ock Street and its continued use. Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Hog Roast on the Saturday afternoon! If you have any photos of Ock Street then please get in touch with the administrators.

So, while the summer might be a time for rest and refreshment, there has been lots going on and we are looking forward with expectation to see what God has in store for us in the coming months.

Let’s get excited for Autumn!

Steve
