Yesterday afteroon there was a very special gathering at the 35 Ock Street cafe…. The Coffee Bean Lady came to visit to advise on how to get the best from our coffee machine, and she brought a wide selection of coffees for a taste test with a cross section of people from the Church.
There will shortly be a change to a new coffee bean for the machine, so keep visiting 35 Ock St to see if you can detect when the new beans are “in” the machine.
The new beans are fairly traded. This means better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers.
You might have seen some coffee in the supermarket with a Rainforest Alliance label. Both Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance offer beneficial systems for third world farmers escape poverty. Fairtrade is committed to challenging the existing injustices in the trade system and offer an alternative. Rainforest Alliance focuses heavily on the environment. Abingdon Baptist Church is a FairTrade Church.
